The Shivalik Hills Foundation Trust
The Shivalik Hills Foundation Trust, headed by Naveen Chopra was established in 2015 in Dehradun with the objective of promoting learning, knowledge and scholarship through institutional, informal and community-driven interventions.
The Trust is powered by ‘The Chopras’, India’s leading career counselling and education service providers, that has twenty-two offices across the country. The Chopras’ education services network extends to over three hundred universities across the world.
The Valley of Words initiative
The Trust has supported this voluntary initiative to encourage excellence in all creative genres by organising Valley of Words: an International Literature and Arts Festival organised every year in the second/third week of November in Dehradun.
Making knowledge more accessible: Establishing a University in Uttarakhand
The Trust has been granted permission by the Higher Education Department of Government of Uttarakhand to establish the University of North at Dharkot in the Bhagwanpur (Hill) Block of Dehradun.
The first academic centres here include Political Economy and Governance, Media and Contemporary Literature, Natural Resources and Development Interventions Centre and Management Studies. Each centre will offer graduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies program in a wide range of disciplines.
The University location in this picturesque locale will attract students not only from within the region but from across the world, especially the Indian diaspora. Its international curriculum, twinning arrangements and dual degree options with overseas university partners open new vistas of interactive learning for students passing out of the premier institutions of Dehradun.
